5 Self-Care Tips I Wish I Knew When I Was Younger

Hey! ✌this is Dr. Gonzalez and in this blog post, we are going to talk about the five tips for self-care to keep you sane. I practice these as much as I can. And no, is not 100% perfect, and no it is not being selfish, but for real, I promise that they work if you put your heart into them. 👍

So here are the 5 tips:

#1 is Facial Care

To take care of the face you must do the following things:

#1 is to wash your face twice a day with a soap that is made for sensitive skin, and you must wash your face one time in the morning, and one time at night. Once you wash your face you want to moisturize it. Assess your face as oily skin or dry skin before getting a moisturizer. If your face is dry, then the type of moisturizer will be oil-based, and if your face is oily then you're going to use a moisturizer based on water.

#2 is to apply Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and retinol serum. Vitamin E will be the most important serum to apply to your skin because Vitamin E can fix your skin while you sleep. Meanwhile, retinol will help you reduce wrinkles. And if you're in your 20s or 30s you must begin this routine. Talk to your dermatologist before you do this step.

#3 is to wash your bed sheets at least once a week. The reason to wash your sheets is that every day you go outside you collect dust, bacteria, and other pathogens. Then when you go to sleep you will put this bacteria and dust in your bed. They collect also feces saliva and essentially anybody fluid.  Bed sheets are usually very dirty. This will accumulate and can cause acne. So you want to avoid this.

#4 is if you have acne apply salicylic acid. You will do this at least one time during the day to help reduce acne or eliminate it.

#2 is the Hair and Nails

You must wash your hair during the week at least one time based on how oily your hair is. Wash your hair with a product that is for sensitive skin containing no toxins. For the nails, trim them at least one time every two weeks.

 #3 is the Digestive System

For your digestive system to be healthy, you must mix a combination of consuming fruits and vegetables together with junk food. And you may ask yourself why I am saying this? The reason is that if you eat every single day junk food, this can cause problems to your digestive system like acid reflux, stomach ache, and gastritis. But creating a balance between both worlds is better than trying to stop the junk food all for once and then going back because it was difficult.

The second thing is to consume probiotics. They help because they are good bacteria and helps with your digestion.

 #4 is Mental Health

Mental health is often misunderstood with weakness, and that is not true. When a person has good mental health they can be very productive and happy. Therefore you should invest in yourself by doing the following tips to have good mental health:

#1 is to keep a journal where you can write your thoughts especially when you have a bad day. Writing down stuff is one of the best ways to unwind.

#2 is to walk because when you go out for a walk it helps you get distracted with nature in your environment and it also aids with relaxation. You don't have to walk that fast you can simply walk at your own pace.

#3 is to talk with someone you trust to explain to this person how you feel. Talking can be beneficial because you're letting go of the things that are making you feel bad.

#4 is to listen to music because music can transport you to a good place mentally. try to listen to music that makes you feel happy.

#5 is to have at least six hours to 8 hours of sleep because sleeping can help you clear your head and also allows your brain to get rid of toxins. Literally, your brain gets washed add night when you sleep. If you cannot have from 6 to 8 hours of sleep then at least have a nap for 30 minutes every day.

 #5 is Physical Health

Walk at least 30 minutes four days of the week. If you don't have a total of 30 minutes then you can divide those minutes into 10 minutes three times during the day. Walking is beneficial to your heart, muscles, bones, and also helps reduce fatty tissue and combat obesity.

If you don’t like to walk, you can find equivalents to walking such as dancing, or doing chores around the house. As long as you’re moving, it is burning calories, which translates to improving your physical health.

Scientifically Proven Tips for More Effective Studying

Jailenne I. Quiñones-Rodriguez (she|her|ella)  www.jailennequinones.com in collaboration with QMA Studying is part of everyday life and professional preparation. It is also a technique that requires patience, practice, and trial and error. As you think about studying tips that are right for you, in this blog we explore four scientifically proven study t echniques from scientific journals and some of the world’s best resources like Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Cornell University. 1. Use Active recall   This controversial method of studying was a talking point in 2009 when a psychology professor published an article advising students against reading and rereading textbooks which, he argued, merely lead students to think they know the material better than they do since it is right in front of them. Surviving the Transition From High School to College

Jailenne I. Quiñones-Rodriguez (she|her|ella) www.jailennequinones.com in collaboration with QMA   The transition from high school to college is an exciting and scary time in your life and for most people. This is the biggest adaptation you make in your life up until this point. Before you leave the nest without looking back, think about what you’ll do to help yourself make it a smooth transition. During high school , I had the experience of moving from one private to a public one and starting fresh in a new high school. Theoretically, the teaching system is the same but, the change of environment was quite different.  With that move under my belt, I thought the conversion from high school to college would be an easy one for me. As well, I consider myself to be independent in this aspect. After school, I completed my assignments by myself, I kept my room clean without my parents asking. And I could prepare basic meals and take care of myself.   Before freshman year beg...
