8 Tips I Wish I knew When I Was Younger...

Para español, sigue hasta abajo...

Hi everyone!
✌I'm QueenMary353. Thanks for taking your precious time to come and read my blog👀. For this first post, I will be explaining some general concepts that I wish I knew when I was younger👩👵. Part of this comes from the first chapter of my book.

Therefore, for me to approach all of you, of different ages, different circumstances, and different backgrounds, I will give you some general ideas 💭of what to do before and after finishing school, and why is it important to be educated (read), even if nobody supports you. However, these tips also apply to anyone👂at any stage of their lives. Thus, don't be discouraged if you read this and you feel that this won't apply to you because you're no longer in school👍. I am still using these tips for myself and learning to do better as I keep going on.😁

Also, in my book, I will give you other secrets that nobody usually tells you and I had to discover on my own. For example, how do I choose my career?👮👲👷 Is it equally important to choose something you love 💘and something that will give you money?💪💅 How do I make connections and network? 👥 How do I prepare my resume to get hired? How do I negotiate a salary? 👌🙈What are taxes and what is a mortgage? 😐😓 There are so many confusing items that yet are necessary and important as an adult. No worries, in my book, I will go in length to explain many of these questions and concepts👏😆.

However, here are some tips that could help you get started:

1. First is to choose your topic/field of interest to study. There are so many different types of degrees that you can choose nowadays. Also, find out if there are scholarships that can pay you to study. Website suggestions like https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/scholarships  might help you look for examples of scholarships that you could apply to.

2. Get your degree but recognize that school is not easy, and it is not updated to our reality. School (or learning) will never end in our life. Read a book, read the newspapers, look for online news, listen to podcasts or audiobooks, etc., and be up to date.

3. School is not forever, but some of your choices are. Be smart and build a plan to choose your career, because unfortunately selecting something that doesn’t pay well enough at the end could be a bad idea, especially if you end up with student loans.

4. Research what career suits you best. If you’re still enrolled in school, your counselor should help you select a career. After all, you will be the one going to work every day and it is important to choose a career that you feel passionate and content about.

5. Be aggressive pursuing your goals! yes, just like the cheerleaders suggest in those school games, you have to pursue your interests and be as persistent as you can, even if NO ONE believes in you. Finishing a career is not easy but when you feel overwhealmed, think of the future and visualize yourself there.

6. Volunteer. If you don’t have work experience, or it has been a long time since you’ve worked, volunteering can be a great way to build your career, and get some experience.

7. Network and build your connections. For example, by volunteering (tip 6) you can get to know people and make new connections. This is important to get a job because they could recommend you to your future employer.

8. Invest in stocks and consider other income options. This usually sounds like a abstract concept but in reality is not so difficult and it is for EVERYONE! not just the Wall Street Guys. And no, I am not a financial advisor, but I am financially self-educated. My advise is to read about stocks first (there are a lot of good books and videos about this), get yourself educated and then start investing if you have spare money (do not invest your money to pay the bills or borrow money from someone else to invest).

In conclusion, some of these tips are a little obvious while others are not. 👆But now that you have a general idea of the things you could do to thrive as an adult, remember that each person is different so do not compare yourself to others👯👽. Instead, what I want for you is to feel inspired enough to go for your dreams (which sounds cliché but is true)😄. Maybe your goals are to become a doctor, but maybe your dreams are to be an entrepreneur and have your homemade shampoo business. 💇Whatever it is, these simple guidelines might help you succeed. 👏 Thanks for reading my blog!

Versión en Español:

¡Hola a todos! Soy QueenMary353.

Scientifically Proven Tips for More Effective Studying

Jailenne I. Quiñones-Rodriguez (she|her|ella)  www.jailennequinones.com in collaboration with QMA Studying is part of everyday life and professional preparation. It is also a technique that requires patience, practice, and trial and error. As you think about studying tips that are right for you, in this blog we explore four scientifically proven study t echniques from scientific journals and some of the world’s best resources like Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Cornell University. 1. Use Active recall   This controversial method of studying was a talking point in 2009 when a psychology professor published an article advising students against reading and rereading textbooks which, he argued, merely lead students to think they know the material better than they do since it is right in front of them. Conversely, he recommended students use active recall: closing the book and reciting everything they can remember up to that point to practice long-term memorization. 2. Use Leitner Sy...

Surviving the Transition From High School to College

Jailenne I. Quiñones-Rodriguez (she|her|ella) www.jailennequinones.com in collaboration with QMA   The transition from high school to college is an exciting and scary time in your life and for most people. This is the biggest adaptation you make in your life up until this point. Before you leave the nest without looking back, think about what you’ll do to help yourself make it a smooth transition. During high school , I had the experience of moving from one private to a public one and starting fresh in a new high school. Theoretically, the teaching system is the same but, the change of environment was quite different.  With that move under my belt, I thought the conversion from high school to college would be an easy one for me. As well, I consider myself to be independent in this aspect. After school, I completed my assignments by myself, I kept my room clean without my parents asking. And I could prepare basic meals and take care of myself.   Before freshman year beg...
