5 Tips For Stress Management I Wish I Knew When I Was Younger

👋Hello readers! Being an adult comes with a lot of responsibilities😖. With responsibilities comes a lot of stress! And unfortunately, we all become adults and end up with these duties. But being an adult is not the unfortunate part👀, is the part of managing all our responsibilities and stressing out because of them. 😓👎

For some adults, these duties include their marriage or partners in life, paying bills such as utilities, cable, internet, phone, car lease, mortgage, etc. For others, it also includes their kids, school or college, the job (or jobs), and also life essentials such as food, water, exercise, health, and others. 😲So when you add these together, it becomes an overwhelming life, and for some, this is difficult to manage.

But how do we handle all of the items mentioned above without going insane? how do I create a balance between the school, family, and other responsibilities?🙅 If I have one or two jobs, plus kids, how can I exercise if I lack the time? And more questions, I'm sure you think just like me. 💆

Well, in this blog post I will give you several ideas to manage the stress👍and find time for yourself and other tasks without going absolutely crazy💪. Keep in mind that while these tips are not going to fully eliminate that stress feeling, they are intended to help alleviate the daily stress so that it becomes more tolerable and fair. 😊😌😆

Here are the 5 Stress Management Tips:

1. Have a planner/calendar (or e-calendar/app); In my previous blog posts, I have mentioned this as an alternative to stay on top of every task. This is why it is no exception to mention it again. Being organized gives you a sense of management of your own time. Think of it as you being the boss of your life. Include all your daily and weekly tasks, such as your meals, nap time, work schedule. If you're enrolled in college, include your school itinerary and your study time. If you have kids and a life-partner, add time for them too. Also, add others such as that cleaning time, groceries, and other important tasks. Last but not least, include time for yourself. By this I mean to add a time where you rest and pamper yourself. This is necessary to have a balanced calendar.

2. Make time for yourself; in the previous tip, I concluded with this because it is essential to make time for you. Choose your favorite hobbies and plan a time for you to do it. For example, if you like a specific TV show, a podcast, go out for a walk, paint, music, etc, this is the time for you to do it. In this way, you won't feel like you're always making time for others and not for yourself. And no, you're not being selfish. You must have a relationship with yourself, just as you have a relationship with others, in order to have good mental health.

3. Meditation; tbh, this sounds like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo!, but it is true that meditation reduces stress, decreases blood pressure, ease the mind, and brings calmness into your body. And no, you don't have to be great at it. Meditation simply consists of finding a nice, calm place, where you can sit down, close your eyes, take deep breaths, and let your mind go. It also consists of listening, being aware of your surrounding, and listen, smell, feel, and be in the moment. So, if you have 5 or 10 minutes, you can check out some guided meditation apps such as Headspace and Calm, which are for free.

4. Accept the things that you cannot control; As I'm writing this, we are living through a pandemic, and granted, I like being in control of my life, go out, see my family and friends, travel, shopping, and other activities. But unfortunately, this is something that is out of my control. Also, there are things that I really cannot control, even if I want to. Some examples are the opinion, words, actions, and decisions of others. However, I have control over my opinion, words, actions, and decisions. I also have control over how I apply those things that I can control. If I'm honest, adulting has shown me over and over that life itself is super unpredictable and problems will always appear even if we don't like or want them. So stop, accept, and think of the things you really can control.

5. Express your feelings to a friend, family, or acquaintance; sometimes, we think that we can manage stress by skipping our feelings and not confront them. However, skipping our emotions only makes things worse, and eventually they accumulate to the point where it is unmanageable. So sometimes all we need is to let it out and express our feelings. Ask this trusted person to not judge you and to simply listen. Expressing yourself can be a great way to assess yourself, find the problem, and then finding a solution in order to move forward. Give it a try.

Well, I hope these simple tips help you feel less stressed out. In my next blog post, I will give stress management tips specifically for students enrolled in college or any university. Thanks for reading me. ✌😇 ©Maryvi Gonzalez Sola & Queen Mary Anatomy LLC

En Español:

¡Hola lectores!

Y no, no estás siendo egoísta.

✌😇 ¡No

Scientifically Proven Tips for More Effective Studying

Jailenne I. Quiñones-Rodriguez (she|her|ella)  www.jailennequinones.com in collaboration with QMA Studying is part of everyday life and professional preparation. It is also a technique that requires patience, practice, and trial and error. As you think about studying tips that are right for you, in this blog we explore four scientifically proven study t echniques from scientific journals and some of the world’s best resources like Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Cornell University. 1. Use Active recall   This controversial method of studying was a talking point in 2009 when a psychology professor published an article advising students against reading and rereading textbooks which, he argued, merely lead students to think they know the material better than they do since it is right in front of them. Conversely, he recommended students use active recall: closing the book and reciting everything they can remember up to that point to practice long-term memorization. 2. Use Leitner System   Na

From my experience, being a graduate student is being in constant learning and training. This training not only contributes to the academic aspect but also involves the emotional and mental components. However, it has been an extremely gratifying experience to be able to be a facilitator to train and influence the lives of so many students and adolescents. For this reason, in the last years of my training, I made the decision to promote pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) so that minorities, like me, are represented and have role models to fulfill their goals.  With this in mind, I in

And at some point finishing your graduate studies, have you asked yourself: How would the transition from being a graduate student and starting a tenure track signify? If the answer to one of those questions was yes, I strongly recommend reading the inspiring story of Dr. Miguel P.
